Educators and assessors

Teaching and assessment appointments require relevant competence and a clear understanding of responsibility.

Educators and assessors

Educators

Educators demonstrate subject knowledge, current professional experience and an ability to support learning. Course records identify the educator’s role and relevant credentials.

Assessors

Assessors use the applicable criteria, gather sufficient evidence and record reasoned findings. They must understand the scheme, maintain competence and disclose conflicts before accepting work.

The task is to establish what the evidence supports, including any gap between a written procedure and its application. An assessor should distinguish an observed fact, an applicant’s explanation and a professional judgement. Clear findings allow the applicant to respond and the authorised decision-maker to understand how the conclusion was reached.

Independence

An assessor must not assess their own consultancy or teaching where this compromises impartiality. The decision and appeal arrangements provide further separation of responsibilities.

Appointment enquiries

Provide a concise professional history, areas of competence and relevant assessment or teaching experience. Appointment depends on documented requirements and the needs of the programme.
