Continuing professional development

CPD is planned learning that helps you maintain and develop competence in your professional field.

Continuing professional development

Annual requirement

Professional members complete at least 12 hours each membership year, including two hours on safety or ethics. Choose learning relevant to your responsibilities and current practice.

Suitable activities

Courses, structured seminars, supervised learning and documented professional study may count where they have a clear learning purpose. Routine work, attendance at sales presentations and repeated viewing without additional learning do not automatically qualify.

Your record

Record the date, provider or source, subject, duration, evidence and what changed in your practice. Keep records for three years after the relevant membership year.

A useful reflection identifies the learning and a specific implication for your work. After a session on client communication, for example, you might identify an explanation or recording step that needs review. Record what you intend to change and, when relevant, what happened when you applied it. An attendance document alone does not explain that connection.

Review and support

EUBF may review a sample of learning records. Contact learner support if you need an adjustment to the requirements. Any adjustment must preserve the purpose of maintaining professional competence.
