Professional responsibility
Clear standards help practitioners understand their obligations to clients, colleagues and learners. Our work addresses competence, accurate information, respectful treatment and accountable decisions.
In practice, this means being able to explain why a service is suitable, recognise when a request falls outside one’s competence and keep a record that supports the decision made. Standards are useful when they help people make these judgements consistently, including when a commercial interest or a client’s expectations make a decision difficult.
Education and opportunity
Education should state what people will learn, how achievement is assessed and what any resulting certificate means. Access programmes address identifiable barriers to participation.
Cooperation
Professional associations, educators and practitioners contribute their experience through consultations and working groups. Their contributions inform the development and review of our work.
Measuring progress
Programme reports distinguish activities delivered from outcomes observed. They state the reporting period, evidence, limitations and lessons for subsequent work.
